Unity of Buffalo is one of 28 Unity ministries that are certified as an EarthCare ministry by the Unity Churches International EarthCare Team, whose purpose is to support Unity Worldwide Ministries in fostering the awareness of our spiritual oneness with our Earth home and to promote active care of creation. The Unity EarthCare Team purpose statement is: The Unity movement is guided by a vision of sacredness and the inter-connectedness of all, the interdependence of all life. It is a journey of spiritual relationships with Earth and its creatures. It is through awakened consciousness that we see everything as the presence of God.
Here are some of the many ways that Unity of Buffalo practices being a good steward of our environment:
- 100% wind power as our source for electrical energy (from Community Energy)
- Our custodian uses all-natural and non-toxic cleaning products
- Recycling in our building includes – paper, bottles, cans, plastic and cardboard, plus inkjet and toner cartridges.
- Outside lights are on a timer system.
- Furnace/AC units are ENERGY STAR rated and use programmable thermostats to adjust for when the building is not in use.
- We purchase paper products made from recycled fibers, and via sustainable forestry initiatives when possible.
